The Beatles - The Classic Rock Band

Beatles The Beatles were the English rock band established in the year 1960 in Liverpool. The line up of the band included Paul Mc Cartney who was on the bass guitar and vocals, John Lennon on the rhythm guitar and vocals, Ringo Starr on the drums and vocals and George Harisson on lead guitar and vocals.

They later became the greatest critically praised performing act and commercially successful band in the history of music. Starting with rock and roll, the band later ventured in other types of music and succeeded in newer genres like psychedelic rock, pop ballads and had the classic element incorporated in every album released.

The popularity of the Beatles was fast growing and soon was named as 'Beatle mania' as everyone in the street started humming their tunes and the stardom passed across the country. From 1960 on, the band started out as five starting to build their reputation by playing at clubs in Hamburg and Liverpool. The five in the team were Harrison, McCartney, Lennon, Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best. In the year 1961, Sutcliffe left the team and pretty soon Ringo Starr replaced Best in the very next year making the band foursome.

Their stardom started to gain wings through their first single, 'Love Me Do' in the United Kingdom that soon became an unpredicted hit in the year 1962. It was then that they received the name 'Fab Four' after which the Beatlemania began to spread out of the boundaries of Britain. Two years later they conquered the top charts in the United States and the world tour was initiated by the band which ended in the year 1966 with their ultimate commercial concert.

From the year 1966 on they unleashed the finest material in music industry which are considered as innovative music and greatly influencial albums even now by the critics. It started with Revolver in 1966 and then followed by Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967, The Beatles in 1968 and Abbey Road in 1969.

The year 1970 witnessed the break-up of the well acclaimed foursome phenomenon and each of them followed their own individual roads to success through music. In 1980, Lennon was murdered and in 2001 Harrison lost his life due to cancer but the others two, Starr and McCartney remained vigorous in the music industry.

They still hold the Guinness World Record for the best selling band in the world history with the sales crossing over one billion units. The Beatles have conquered the UK charts several times with their spectacular albums and have remained in the top spot longer than any other albums.

They have collected enough awards and other honours with their innovative music that seems to be the favourite numbers for many even today. The Beatles grabbed 7 Grammy awards hosted by the American National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, 15 Ivor Novello Awards awarded by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors and an Academy Award for the Best Original Song Score. The four musicians was collectively included in the Times Magazine's 20th Century's 100 most influential people.
